    Around the Ranch
    June tends to be the busiest month of the year at the Ranch, and this year was no exception. The first weeks of June signal the beginning of the farmers’ market season in our area, the annual Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, Heritage Fire and Grand Cochon in Snowmass Village, ACES annual Picnic on the Preserve, and our first Farm to Table Dinner of the year. Additionally this year, we were very involved in the Aspen Ideas Festival (AIF), which generally kicks off the last week of June.

    Around the Ranch
    Since the dawn of time - or at least since Jason Smith has taken the reins down at Rock Bottom Ranch - chickens have followed sheep. They also follow three goats and few donkeys. I realize some might be scratching their heads when I talk about chickens following sheep, so first let me back up a little. Not quite to the dawn of time, just a few hundred years.

    The Ranch’s new honey bees are in their new homes and settling well. It was quite an adventure to get them, so we’re relieved that the installation of the bee nuc and subsequent inspections have been smooth and successful. The Agriculture staff at the Ranch is pretty excited for this new endeavor – we are all beginner beekeepers, but enthusiastic nonetheless!

    Around the Ranch
    After a string of unplanned events, minor delays, and a broken truck, things finally began to come together last weekend ahead of a busy week at ACES at Rock Bottom Ranch. This week, we have a full plate - installation of a new pizza oven, juggling vegetable soil prep and planting, and, perhaps most excitingly, introduction of new beehives.
