Walk on the Other Side Walks

Join ACES Director of Naturalist Programs, Jim Kravitz on this rare opportunity to discover the far side of the North Star Preserve, which is otherwise closed to the public. This small group experience will meander through the entire length of the preserve, traversing riparian areas and aspen fans along the flanks of Aspen Mountain. Along the way we will discover, observe, and learn about the rich animal and plant life that make North Star their home. During this one-of-a-kind walk we will observe ecological features and natural habitats of North Star and discuss the importance of land preservation in our valley.

This class requires advanced registration to ensure appropriate planning for the field experience. Participants must register by 5pm on the day prior to the outing.

Meeting place and other details will be communicated with registered participants closer to the class.

About the Instructor:

Jim Kravitz has been Director of Naturalist Programs since 1996. Jim joined the ACES staff as a Summer Naturalist in 1995 and as a Winter Naturalist in 1995/96. He received his B.A. in Environmental Conservation at the University of Colorado and spent several years guiding backcountry trips throughout the northwestern United States and Alaska. Jim hires for and manages ACES’ Summer and Winter Naturalist Programs. He has completed the American Leadership Forum program as well as graduate work with the Union Institute relating to the importance nature centers play in building social capital within their communities. When not teaching his sons, Jack and Jesse, about the place he lives, Jim likes to hike, ski, and see live music.
