Introduction to Multi-Species Rotational Grazing

There are various management practices when it comes to grazing livestock, and at Rock Bottom Ranch, we practice intensive multi-species rotational grazing. This practice is more labor intensive than others, but it allows us to raise various species on the same small scale acreage, as well as build healthy soil and pastures.

At Rock Bottom Ranch, we consider ourselves land stewards first, and farmers second. We’re constantly looking at our land to help guide our farming decisions.Over the years, we’ve scaled up or scaled down different species depending on what the land needs. We’re passionate about intensive multi species rotational grazing, and we use this practice for all the species that we raise. We demonstrate this by intensively grazing our herd of sheep and cattle, and following them with our flocks of laying hens. With intensive multi-species rotational grazing, we have different animals moving through the same pastures. We’re constantly amazed at the positive impact our livestock can have on our landscapes.
