ACES Evening Birding at Rock Bottom Ranch 05/13/25

Tuesday, May 13, 2025, 6:00-8:00pm
Weather: Clear
Location: Rock Bottom Ranch, Basalt, CO

Evenings at Rock Bottom Ranch are magical, with golden light, a light breeze, and the changing activities of birds and other animals at the close of the day. While our species list is modest in length, the quality of the observations we experienced was exceptional. We were able to take our time in spots where bird activity was close at hand, giving us. opportunities to see birds in different light conditions, doing various behaviors, and interacting with each other in interesting ways. Highlights included active nests of Say’s phoebes and bald eagles, great blue herons sailing overhead as they returned to their nesting colonies, wild turkeys foraging at the edge of a woodland field, red-winged blackbirds working out territory disputes, and snipes calling and flying around in the sedge wetlands. We particularly enjoyed seeing excellent views of snipes on the ground and in flight, while learning their vocal calls and the winnowing sounds of their display flights. Join us at Rock Bottom Ranch for Morning Birding on May 27th!
