Location: Hallam Lake

Species Identified

Rufous Hummingbird
Belted Kingfisher
Steller’s Jay

    American Crow
Violet-green Swallow
Mountain Chickadee
American Robin

Comments: Changing weather quieted the birds at first this evening, but we were treated with rising activity as the thunderstorm passed: cedar waxwings hawking insects, kingfishers on the lakeshore, broad-tailed hummingbirds fly-catching in swarms of gnats, a close encounter with a Rufous Hummingbird, and song sparrows singing. Great evening light gave us good looks at colors in plumages. Other highlights: foraging beavers and a swimming garter snake.
