Comments:
It was a beautiful, cool morning at Rock Bottom Ranch. We warmed up as the bright sun came over the distant ridge. After a mini-lesson on the Red-winged blackbird’s nesting habitat and chick-rearing, we were greeted by an immature red-winged and its mother in the first bush along the path. Other morning highlights included watching four Wilson’s Snipes flying up & out of the meadow’s wetlands and a Cooper’s Hawk perched in a cottonwood right where Sandy, an ACES’ regular birder, mentioned seeing many birds a month ago. We deducted that the hawk knew where to find his breakfast easily!
