Comments: The lesser scaup pair on Hallam Lake provided us with a luxurious study of that species and its behavior: sleeping, diving/feeding, preening. We were able to take in their field marks using the scope, giving us an excellent set of observations to discuss. Nice surprises were active dippers on Hallam Lake and a bald eagle. We learned the value of staying put and letting the birds come by us, as well as the value of seeing familiar birds from obscure angles making ID tricky. All of this was great practice for the upcoming Christmas Bird Count on Sunday, December 14! RSVP here to join us!
