Comments: Cedar waxwings were feeding in the back of the preserve at Hallam Lake, along with abundant song sparrows. We visited the James Smith Open Space where the baby herons at the heronry were standing in their nests; they should be ready to fledge in a couple more weeks. The high water along the flooded Roaring Fork River limits our access to some usual riparian birding trails, but we appreciate the welcome runoff and all that it will do for the birds’ habitat and the natural community in our watershed in genera. Another excellent morning of birding!
