Tuesday Birding at Rock Bottom Ranch 6/20/23

Tuesday, June 20, 2023, 6:30am-9:30am
Weather: Sunny
Location: Hallam Lake, Aspen, CO

The active Osprey and Great Blue Heron nests were exciting to check today for progress: no chick observed yet for the Ospreys, but definite incubating or brooding behavior; and nine big chicks were counted in the heron nests that are most easily visible from the trails. We look forward to seeing Osprey chick(s) soon! Other highlights included seeing a recently fledged Hairy Woodpecker being fed by a parent, an American Dipper on the bank of the Roaring Fork River which is very high volume at the moment, and excellent looks at a Lincoln’s Sparrow, Cordilleran Flycatcher, and Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Join us tomorrow for birding in the burn area on Basalt Mountain!
