Cate McMahan

Vegetable Apprentice

Cate McMahan is an outdoor enthusiast and educator spending her summer on the ranch as a vegetable apprentice. She spent her childhood in Old Snowmass, and after graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in environmental studies, she returned to the valley last summer to work with ACES as a Trook apprentice, helping lead summer camp programs at Hallam Lake. In college, she worked as an educator with the non-profit Garden School Foundation, providing gardening and cooking classes to elementary schoolers in Los Angeles, which provided her with a food production background that she was eager to circle back to and expand on at Rock Bottom Ranch. In the winter, she continues to work with children as a ski instructor on Snowmass mountain. In the summer, Cate enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, biking, and backpacking, often taking her watercolor paints or guitar on adventures. In the winter, Cate skis almost every day and winds down by working on her knitting and crochet projects.
