Rhinos, Running, and Rangers: Protecting Kenya’s Wildlife Heritage

by Christy Mahon and Robin Severy

CANCELLED

Due to the spike in COVID-19 cases in Pitkin County, we have cancelled this event. Please join us for other Potbelly Perspectives this year!

This past September, a small team of women took on the challenge of running 116 miles over five days through five wild and remote Kenyan conservancies (Lewa, Borana, Lolldaiga, Ol Jogi, and El Karama). Their mission was to raise awareness around protecting some of Kenya’s most incredible land and its wildlife and people. The run was a fundraiser for the ForRangers Foundation in Kenya (https://www.forrangers.com), affiliated with Save the Rhino, which supports and outfits the local rangers combating wildlife poaching and managing human-wildlife conflict.

These dedicated men and women are on the front lines of the battle to protect both animals and humans, doing a difficult job with great danger and sometimes fatal consequences. Throughout the journey, the team was joined by incredible environmental leaders and the world’s most legendary wildlife.
