ACES Birding by Habitat: Snowmass 8/28/26

A female or juvenile Wilson’s warbler was the first bird of the morning on this very productive field trip. Fall migration is always exciting at the Snowmass Rodeo ponds and wetlands! Birds abounded pretty much all throughout this hotspot! Cedar waxwings were hawking insects that were backlit by the sun, warblers were flitting about the leafy vegetation, ducks and coots were feeding on the pond, and hummingbirds were everywhere, especially around flower beds at surrounding homes. We saw many molting birds: Brewer’s blackbirds, starlings, and red-winged blackbirds. The general abundance of birds gave us many opportunities to reinforce learning and a sense of the season’s breeding success. Join us next week for Morning Birding at Rock Bottom Ranch!
