Eagles, hawks, and owls…oh my!

ACES’ second annual Raptor Fair brought nearly 500 people down to the Hallam Lake Nature Preserve in Aspen, CO. Folks of all ages came to see our resident birds of prey (the Golden Eagle, Red-tailed Hawk, and Great Horned Owl) and got to meet the visiting birds that came with Nature’s Educators.

Nature’s Educators is a raptor education organization from the Front Range. As an organization without a public facility, they bring their birds to special events to help teach about the ecological and inspirational value of raptors. The birds they brought this year were: a Screech Owl, a Gyrfalcon, a Harris’s Hawk, a Turkey Vulture, and a Prairie Falcon.

The 2014 Raptor Fair was made possible by FirstBank. Please thank them for supporting this fun and educational family event. In addition to meeting the birds face to face, bird of prey-themed arts and crafts, watching a flight demonstration and learning cool facts about raptors, participants also dissected owl pellets and put together skeletons!
