Weather: Partly cloudy
Location: Hallam Lake
Comments:
The dawn chorus continues to grow with more migratory birds arriving daily. We focused on a few of the more prominent singers this morning to refresh our ear-birding skills: song sparrow, fox sparrow, and ruby-crowned kinglet. At one point, a fox sparrow and a song sparrow were perched and singing in neighboring willows where we had the opportunity to compare their field marks and voices side-by-side. It was exciting to see the osprey pair active around their nest, and the new great blue heron nest in a spruce over the lake. These charismatic birds will be ongoing highlights for birders this season! Join us for many upcoming field trips this month, as well as the next Morning Birding outing on May 18th at Rock Bottom Ranch!
