Comments: Diffuse light on this cloudy morning provided great conditions for observing colors and fine details on several species that perched long enough for our group to study them and learn both bold and subtle field marks as well as postures and behaviors. An osprey, red-tailed hawk, and two Western wood-peewees were observed through the scope, and stimulated great discussion among the group for an excellent learning experience. Today’s mini-lesson covered the fall equinox and the significance of changing day-length as a cue for birds for migration, winter-readiness, and other activities.
