Comments:

Highlights of this special outing included discovering an active heron nest located a short distance downstream from the original nesting site, complete with a big chick and one adult in the nest. Also, a female Western Tanager was foraging on caterpillars around the edges of the river, giving us a good identification challenge to work out. We had opportunities to study a family of newly fledged Ruby-crowned Kinglets, as well as Lincoln’s Sparrows and Yellow Warblers. The lush green vegetation and low clouds as well as the abundant birdlife underscored the vitality of this special habitat. Join us in August for the last in this series, venturing to the ‘other side’ of the river for more excellent birding!
