Jody Guralnick
Jody Guralnick was born in Boston, Mass, and received a BFA Honors degree from St Martins School of Art in London, England, as well as an MFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. She has lived in Aspen for 40 years. She is an artist making work primarily concerned with the natural world, and communicating about the existence of life seen and unseen. She is a Master Naturalist for the Forest Conservancy, studying and teaching about lichen to the other volunteers. Learning botany and issues of preservation through the Master Naturalist accreditation course has shaped the way she relates to both painting and the world that informs it. She sees painting as a method of communicating about environmental issues, issues of preservation, and the simple and most essential delights of observation.
Here is a short statement about her work: Jody Guralnick explores the intersection of science and art, linking the human world and the realm of fungi and microbes, encouraging stewardship of the environment. She has exhibited throughout the US and is the recipient of a Ford Foundation Grant and a Colorado Council for the Arts Visual Arts Fellowship, as well as numerous residencies.
