Evening Birding at Rock Bottom Ranch

Tuesday, June 20, 2023, 6-8pm
Weather: Clear
Location: Rock Bottom Ranch, Basalt, CO

Evening is a wonderful time to enjoy birdwatching! We enjoyed warm temperatures and the setting sun, and excellent light for viewing birds. Highlights included a family of Killdeers with four chicks, the four Say’s Phoebes that are standing on the rim of their nest ready to fledge any minute, several Nighthawks foraging very high in the sky, Lewis’s Woodpeckers active at their nest site, and many adult birds seen with bills full of food for their broods. We also saw fledgling Red-winged Blackbirds and molting Mallards. It is an exciting time of year for bird behaviors with all the active nests! Join us tomorrow for birding the burn area on Basalt Mountain!
