ACES Morning Birding at Rock Bottom Ranch 07/21/26

This outing began with a Cooper’s hawk carrying prey in flight right past us in the parking lot. It perched briefly before flying onward. We then walked on to explore the ranch and its many habitat nooks where we encountered many birds, including yellow warbler families feeding fledglings, Lewis’s woodpeckers attending fledglings, and many fast, darting birds that were difficult to identify. Red-naped sapsuckers perched in the cottonwood canopy, eclipse mallards were on the pond, and cedar waxwings gathered in the shrubs. Other highlights included three species of hummingbirds and wild turkeys in the parking lot as we concluded. Join us later this week for Hummingbird Studies!
