Christian Fowler

Educator - Basalt Elementary School

Christian grew up in the four corners region where the San Juan mountains transitioned into the high desert of the Colorado Plateau. This gave him many opportunities to connect with the land and to grow a love for the outdoors, a connection that has been further deepened by blending his Diné (Navajo) culture with ideas about the environment and education. While attending Colorado College and pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Christian completed the Teaching and Research in Environmental Education (TREE) semester program his sophomore year and it sparked his passion for outdoor and environmental education. This is also where he discovered the work that ACES does in schools after he visited places like Hallam Lake, Rock Bottom Ranch, and also stayed at the Catto Center at Toklat. After graduating from Colorado College, he returned to work with the TREE semester as a fellow and then shortly thereafter applied to ACES where he now teaches at Basalt Elementary School.
